UPSC CSE Preparation Strategy

Following are some general points for UPSC civil services aspirants. I have tried to compile all my opinion as response to questions asked by many aspirants. As I myself qualified long ago, I would refrain from giving detailed strategy myself. Further All points may not be relevant for you. Who should prepare for the civil services Exam ? CSE preparation require sincere effort of at least two years ie about 50 hours per week for normal candidates. College students > you can start as per availablity of time from your regular curriculum. But don't compromise your academics. If options available pick courses relevant for CSE. It's best time to master your optional, if chosen from same academic field. Along with Job > Giving up job is not necessary if you can afford 50 hours per week, you can give a shot. CSE Mains Strategy Electrical Engineering

Syllabus coverage : Most important thing is to cover the complete syllabus of EE CSE whole heartily. You can refer to portions of standard books mentioned by Prince Dhawan sir in his blog . This approach is exhaustive and put you in a more confident state. But this approach takes a lot of time. it will take around 14 months to prepare by this approach.  Alternatively You can refer to printed study material of Made Easy. Since Made easy study material primarily targets ESE, You will have to be more selective. For example in Power electronics some topics are part of ESE but not of CSE, Be careful of that. Also some syllabus has to be covered from ESE electronics study material e.g. Digital communications. Throughout the process of syllabus coverage keep an eye on Syllabus mentioned in CSE notification. Dont try be master in EE, be professional as EE is just 2/7 part of the game 😉.
